Help communities fleeing conflict

Supporting families in urgent need

As conflict rages in Sudan millions families are struggling to survive. Supplies of food, clean water and medicines are running dangerously low.

In desperate need of humanitarian assistance, thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and seek safe haven in neighboring countries.

Communities in Sudan were already suffering from the impact of climate change and poverty. East Africa's worst drought in 40 years has seen rivers run dry, farmers lose their livestock and left millions facing extreme hunger.

Now communities are fleeing in terror, desperately seeking refuge from the violence.

Despite the challenges, GOAL teams are on the ground delivering food, water and medical support. With your help we can save lives.

GOALies have been supporting vulnerable communities in Sudan for over 35 years. Today, over 200 staff are working on the ground to deliver lifesaving services.

As the conflict continues to escalate GOAL teams are working across the border in South Sudan and Ethiopia to support refugees fleeing the crisis. Supporting mothers like Angelina.

"We all fled from Sudan to save our lives, and it was not an easy journey," Angelina says.

The 50-year-old mother feared for her own safety, but her main concern was ensuring her five children survived the treacherous journey.

"At least adults can manage hunger and the thirst, yet there are other things which made the journey very difficult.  All my money and valuable belongings were stolen from me and others who were trying to escape the conflict, so we ended up here completely empty-handed," Angelina says.

Unfortunately, Angelina's tragic story is not uncommon. As the conflict continues, more and more families are fleeing in terror.

Triplets thriving thanks to GOAL's life-saving nutrition programme

Six-month-old triplets Nyachua, Nyajuak and Nyakime look the picture of health as they lie together in Gambella refugee camp in Ethiopia with their mother Nyakan.

The baby girls were found to be suffering from life-threatening, severe malnutrition in their early weeks.

But thanks to the support of our donors our team in Ethiopia were there to intervene. And the babies received the vital treatment they needed to survive and flourish. The triplets are now meeting all their developmental milestones and their mother Nyakan can start planning for their future.
