Our story
GOAL works with communities facing extreme poverty and crisis
GOAL was founded by former Irish journalist, John O’Shea, in 1977 when he saw the plight of street children in Kolkata (Calcutta) firsthand. Over the last 46 years, GOAL has responded to many of the world’s major humanitarian crises, working with vulnerable communities in more than 60 countries.
Our story
Where there is need, GOAL is present
Every day, more than 3,000 GOALies work to improve the lives of those affected by conflict and natural disaster. Over the last year GOAL teams have reached more than 14 million people in 14 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
Our story
Reaching communities far and wide
GOAL delivers programs in Emergency Response, Food & Nutrition Security, Resilient Health, and Sustainable Livelihoods. We also promote Global Citizenship, recognizing that we all share responsibility for a better world.
What we do
Conflict, instability and climate change have created unprecedented levels of need.
GOAL's Emergency Response program takes an integrated approach focused on saving lives, alleviating human suffering, and building resilience for the future.
Find out more about Emergency ResponseLong-term health inequalities need urgent commitment and intervention.
From emergency assistance to sustainable development, Resilient Health works on two fronts - meeting the challenge of chronic health emergencies, as well as taking a systems-based approach to help communities build a healthier future.
Find out more about Resilient HealthEven today, 800 million people across the world do not have the food they need.
Food poverty is increasing, fueled by rapid population growth, increased conflict, displacement, and climate change. GOAL is focused on innovative and sustainable ways to achieve food and nutrition security for the most vulnerable.
Find out more about Food & Nutrition SecurityThe informal economy accounts for more than half of the global workforce.
GOAL works in areas of extreme poverty and inequality, where livelihoods are often sustained through self-employment, micro- or small businesses. Our team is helping to make sure that these people have the opportunity to build strong and sustainable livelihoods.
Find out more about Sustainable LivelihoodsThe world is increasingly connected. Action is no longer limited by traditional boundaries or borders.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for us all. They address poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
GOAL links its Global Citizenship program with the SDGs, helping people understand that how we live and act can, and does, make a difference -- cultivating better, more informed global citizens.
